About Laurie

Laurie has a big heart

Laurie already has a GREAT BIG HEART! It’s a kidney she needs…
Laurie Santos is the kind of person who looks out for others and has had a life and career about service to people, her community, and her family. She is a “spread the love” type of person and in need now of some special love in the form of everyone’s help.

Lauren Santos lives in a shoreline Connecticut town with her husband Martin who still works. They have two sons, and three (soon to be four) grandchildren who all live over an hour away. COVID-19 has made it very difficult for Laurie and Martin and it further isolates them. Laurie has been on Hemodialysis (HD) since April of 2019, undergoing the long treatments at home. Martin assists her and is present during the sessions. HD takes five hours out of their day three times a week. It makes it difficult to travel to see family and requires advance planning to go out of state.

Laurie has lived in Connecticut since 1986. Prior to that she lived in California where she studied at U.C. Berkeley  and was certified as a Physician Assistant in the Stanford program. She spent a short period of time prior to her P.A. career as a Social Worker. After moving to CT, Laurie worked as a P.A. in the Emergency Department at Saint Rafael’s Hospital in New Haven, now part of the Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Laurie and Marcel

Laurie has long valued service and been active in her community, serving on a Zoning Board and other town commissions, and as a member of the Board of Trustees for her town’s award-winning library.

Education and reading have been very important causes for which she has worked. Unavoidably less so now with her health challenges and the pandemic.
